Anna V. Liechty
Anna V. Liechty, 101, longtime missionary from Berne, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Swiss Village, where she was a resident. She was born on November 19, 1915 in Adams County to Albert W. and Ida (Moser) Liechty.
She was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Berne. She graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois and later graduated from Goshen College and Ball State University. She studied French for a year in Brussels, Belgium. In 1946, she was a missionary with the Congo Inland Mission serving in Zaire. Later, the Mission Board joined the Africa Inter-Mennonite Mission. She retired in 1984. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and music.
She is survived by two nieces, Martha Showalter of Harrisonburg, Virginia; and Miriam Griffin of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; nephew, Jonathan Habegger of Tucson, Arizona; and great-nephews and nieces and their children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Paul S. Liechty; and two sisters, Mary J. Augsburger; and Ruth B. Habegger.
There will be a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 27 in the Swiss Village Auditorium. Officiating will be Pastor Jerry A. Flueckiger. A private burial was held at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
