Berneta L. Lehman
Berneta L. Lehman, 93, of Berne passed away on Friday, August 18, 2017 at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born on February 15, 1924 in Berne to Robert U. and Emma (Sprunger) Liechty. She was married on December 24, 1943 to Adrian Lehman.
They served as missionaries at Lazy Mountain Children's Home in Palmer, Alaska from 1951-1956. She was a lifelong homemaker and was a member of First Mennonite Church in Berne, where she volunteered in various ministries. She enjoyed working on puzzles.
She is survived by two daughters, Jaculin (Clarence) Torkelson of Berne; and Sue (Robert) Harness of Fort Wayne; two sons, Jay (Rhonda) Lehman of Franklin, Tennessee; and Matt (Joye) Lehman of Berne; two brothers, Loren and Robert Liechty; 24 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1989; foster daughter, Katherine Abel in 2009; granddaughter Jill Torkelson in 1974; four brothers, Melvin, E. Gordon, James, and Samuel Liechty; and three sisters, Anna Roop; Corena Liechty; and Colleen Smith.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 25 at Swiss Village Chapel in Berne and one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, August 26 at First Mennonite Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff Linthicum. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery.
