Betta Strahm Murdick
Betta Lu Strahm Murdick, 93, Berne left this life to join the heavenly throng on Friday, October 7, 2016. She has been in Swiss Village Healthcare following a stroke in mid-September. Betta was born April 16, 1923 in Goshen, Indiana, to Seymour and Carje(Strayer) Cripe. She was the youngest of 9 children. At an early age she dedicated her life to following Jesus as Lord and Savior. She attended Goshen College and graduated from Fort Wayne Bible College. On June 23, 1946 she married Rev. Louis Strahm. For the next 20 years they pastored churches in Illinois, Ohio, and Indiana. In 1967 they moved to South Florida to minister among the Island men that came to harvest sugarcane. In 1982 Louis went to be with the Lord. To the surprise of many, she faithfully carried on their missionary work for several more years. Her lifelong desire was to point others to Jesus. After retiring she married Kenneth Murdick on July 13, 1991. They enjoyed warm winters in Florida and pleasant summers in Michigan. Kenneth went to be with the Lord in 2008. In 2010 Betta took up residence at Swiss Village in Berne, Indiana.
She is survived by a son, Samuel(Barbara)Strahm of Walkerton, Indiana and a daughter, Roberta(Francis)Mustapha of Fort Wayne, seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Donna Yoder of Goshen, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by both husbands, 3 brothers, and 4 sisters.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the staff of Swiss Village. Your kindness and compassionate care for Betta did not go unnoticed. God bless you all.
Funeral services are Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 10:30 am in the Swiss Village Chapel with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Visitation is also Friday, October 14 from 4 to 8 pm in the chapel. Officiating is Pastor Keith Rupp. Burial is in the MRE Cemetery, Berne.
