Edith A. Walter

Edith A. Walter, 102, of Berne passed away at 4:20 a.m. on Monday, October 3, 2016 at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born on Monday, March 2, 1914 in Jay County to George and Dessie (Hough) Stolz. She was married on Sunday, June 23, 1946 in Jay County to Jay Walter.

She was a Ball State University graduate. She had been a teacher for 37 years working in Jay County for six years and Adams County for 31 years. She was a member of the Bryant Redeemer Lutheran Church, Indiana State Teachers Association, Berne Senior Citizens, Bryant Senior Citizens, Pleasant Neighbors Ext. Homemakers club, and ELCW Women's Organization.

She is survived by her son, Don J. Walter of Geneva; daughter, Sara Kessing of Indianapolis; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Orison, Charles, Paul, and George Stolz; and two sisters, Martha Mitley; and Anna Matthias.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4 at Swiss Village, 1350 W. Main St., Berne and one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Wednesday, October 5 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bryant. Officiating will be Pastor Robert Abner. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Portland.
