Eula D. Van Emon

Eula Dee VanEmon, 89, of Berne, a loving mother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Swiss Village in Berne, where she was a resident since 2014. She was born on September 1, 1928 in Adams County to Otis and Sarah “Myrtle” (Fogle) Burk. She was married on February 19, 1949 to Kenneth VanEmon.

She graduated from Geneva High School in 1946 and forever was a Cardinal. During high school, she was a cheerleader, and she married her high school sweetheart. She worked at the family owned Geneva Sale Barn as a cashier. A lover of country barns and the farm, she drove tractor and enjoyed overseeing the farming operations, including the farm animals with a special affection for pigs. She also was a cafeteria manager for Geneva, Berne and South Adams school system for many years. She drove the school bus filled with students to school activities and events. She received her bachelor of science in elementary education from Indiana University and taught kindergarten in Berne for 26 years. She loved teaching and working with children. In retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Berne.

She is survived by her husband; six sons, Stanley (Nancy) VanEmon of Berne; Michael (Janalyn) VanEmon of Carmel; Dennis (Elaine) VanEmon of Greenwood; Ned VanEmon (Junko) of McCordsville; Mark (Kim) VanEmon of Chesterfield, Missouri; and Curt (Rachel) VanEmon of Lexington, Massachusetts; four daughters, Karen (Ronald) Crider of McCordsville; and Joni (Stuart) Cagle; Janet (Guy) Taylor; and Linda (Kevin) Burkett, all of Fishers; 22 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be three hours prior to the 2:00 p.m. funeral service on Sunday, December 31 at Swiss Village in Berne. Officiating will be Rev. Mike Wertenberger. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Geneva.

Memorials may be made to the Kenneth and Eula VanEmon Scholarship Fund to support graduating South Adams students pursuing undergraduate degrees in education. These monetary donations can be made on the Adams County Community Foundation website at www.AdamsCountyFoundation.org.
