Harvey Schwartz

Harvey O. Schwartz, 81, of Berne, passed away at 5:12 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital, Kokomo, of lung complications. He was born on June 18, 1935 in Berne to Adam and Mary (Bontrager) Schwartz. He married Mary Chupp on June 20, 1965 in Berne and she preceded him in death on June 15, 2006.

Harvey was a carpenter and manufactured windows and doors. In his retirement years, he was known for his fishing and his many little sayings that often rhymed.

He is survived by a daughter Karen (Wesley) Gingerich of Kokomo; four sons, Adam (Deborah) Schwartz of Berne; Harley (Sherri) Schwartz of Shipshewana; Philip (Rosetta) Schwartz of Shipshewana; and Perry (Katie Ellen) Schwartz of Topeka; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Levi (Barbara) Schwartz of Berne; Jerome (Josephine) Schwartz of Nappanee; and Martin (Edna) Schwartz of New Paris; three sisters, Lydiann Hilty of Berne; Edna Hochstedler of Topeka; and Clara Hilty of Berne.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Krystle Gingerich and Angela Schwartz; two sisters, Sarah (infant) and Pollie; and two brothers Alvin and Dan Schwartz.

Viewing will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 13 and from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 14 at the Merlin Hilty residence, 1757 S. 200 W., Monroe. Services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Merlin Hilty residence with Walter Schwartz and Melvin Hochstetler officiating. Burial will be in the Schwartz Cemetery in Berne.
