James E. Moser | The Berne Witness

James E. Moser

James E. Moser, 90, of Berne passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Swiss Village in Berne, where he was a resident. He was born on April 8, 1926 to Mark and Anna (Blocker) Moser. He was married on October 1, 1944 to Glenna Sprunger.

He was a lifelong member of the First Mennonite Church, where he served as a former trustee and various committees in the church. He volunteered many years at Camp Gilead in Florida doing construction work. In 1964, he went to Haiti in voluntary service though the Mennonite Church doing construction work. He was a member of the Berne Lions Club for many years. He was president of Moser Construction, which he formed along with his three sons. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and doing jigsaw puzzles.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Barbara (Dan) Dawson of Berne; three sons, Ted (Judy) Moser; and Greg (Karen) Moser, both of Berne; and Brian (Kelly) Moser of Linn Grove; brother, Loren (Grace) Moser of Berne; two sisters, Caro (Ralph) Jones of Argus; and Marge (Jim) Bowman of Fort Wayne; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Linda (Stucky) Moser; sister, Vera (Ivan) Sprunger; and two brothers, Robert and Lee Moser.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 28 at the Swiss Village Auditorium in Berne and one hour prior to the 2:00 p.m. funeral service on Sunday, January 29 at the First Mennonite Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Jerry A. Flueckiger and Pastor Jeff Linthicum. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.

Memorials may be made to the First Mennonite Church Missions or Children's Bible Mission (Camp Gilead).
