Kenneth A. Doherty

Kenneth Alvin Doherty, 84, of Geneva passed away at 1:23 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur. He was born on Monday, July 14, 1932 in Decatur to Otto Nathan and Florence B. (Haney) Doherty. He was married on Saturday, January 3, 1953 in Richmond to M. Marcella Hough. 

He was a 1950 graduate of Geneva High School. He formerly attended the High Street United Methodist Church in Geneva. He helped with the food bank in Geneva. He retired from International Harvester in Fort Wayne in 1983. He also worked at Chalet Village in Berne as a maintenance supervisor. He was a 56 year member of the Geneva Volunteer Fire Dept. and a member of the Indiana Volunteer Fireman’s Association. He was a lifetime member and past president of Tri- State Gas & Engine Club and a lifetime member of the Geneva V.F.W. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife of Geneva; two daughters, Penny (Mike) Hirschy of Decatur; and Lois (Phil) DeBolt of Roanoke; two grandsons, Nathan (Kelsi) Hirschy of Fortville; and Matthew (Taren) DeBolt of Chicago, Illinois; two granddaughters, Melissa (Kevin) Dickman of Convoy, Ohio; and Michelle (William) Bostain of Fort Wayne; five great-granddaughters, Macie Dickman; Myla Dickman; and Maren Dickman all of Convoy, Ohio; Madeline Hirschy of Fortville; and Elena Bostain of Fort Wayne; and a great-grandson, McCormick Hirschy of Fortville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Carl Cochran; William Doherty; and Robert Doherty; and sister, Betty Jones.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 16 and one hour prior to the 1:00 p.m. funeral service on Saturday, December 17 at High Street United Methodist Church, 435 High St., Geneva. Officiating will be Pastor Michelle Isch. Burial will be at Backesto Cemetery in Berne.
