Leonard J. Schwartz

Leonard J. Schwartz, 89, of Berne passed away Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born on November 9, 1928 in Berne to L. Reuben and Rachael (Steury) Schwartz. He was married on March 20, 1982 to Linda L. Tschannen.

He worked at Indiana Construction as a carpenter in the 1950s, owned and operated Berne Oil for 30 years, worked for Courtesy Motors as a salesman in the 1980s, and retired in 2005 from Habegger Ace Hardware.

He is survived by his wife of Berne; three sons, David (Michelle) Schwartz of Fort Wayne; Raymond Schwartz; and Joseph  (José) Schwartz, both of Lancaster, Ohio; two daughters, Sherry Steiner of Santa Claus; and Leslie (D.J.) Ahlfeld of Churubusco; brother, Richard (Janice) Schwartz of Decatur; three sisters, Jeanette Koomler of Fort Wayne; Irene (Marvin) Watkins of Decatur; and Flossie (Robert) Cable of Auburn; sister-in-law, Rebecca (James) Cochran, Jr. of Decatur; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Carol Yager.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 16 and one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Friday, November 17 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home. Officiating will be Pastor Jerry Flueckiger.

Memorials may be made to the South Adams Senior Center or the Boys and Girls Club of Adams County.
