Melvin G. Augsburger

Melvin G. Augsburger, 73, of Berne passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care in Fort Wayne. He was born on January 2, 1944 in Adams County to Gorman and Ruby (Nelson) Augsburger. He was married on December 14, 1963 to Rita Neuenschwander.

He was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Berne. He was employed in the maintenance department at South Adams Schools and also drove bus for 18 years. He enjoyed camping, cutting wood, cruising in his golf cart, and especially attending his grandchildren’s sports events.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Wade (Taya) Augsburger; and Brian (Lee Anne)Augsburger, both of Berne; brother, Max Augsburger of Florida; sister, Joan (Calvin) Morgan of Geneva; five grandchildren, Ashley (Justin) Hicks; Alex Augsburger (fiance Morgan Isch); and Katelin, Taylor, and Benjamin Augsburger, and three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Bryson Hicks; and Harper Augsburger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother; Leonard Augsburger; and sister, Jean Moore.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 17 at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18 at First Mennonite Church Chapel in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Jerry A. Flueckiger. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.

Memorials may be made to First Mennonite Church or Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
