Ruth E. Gottschalk | The Berne Witness

Ruth E. Gottschalk

Ruth E. Gottschalk, 97, of Berne passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at Swiss Village, where she was a resident. She was born on November 18, 1919 in Nottingham Township, Wells County to Goldie and Lottie (Meshberger) Gottschalk.

She graduated from Hartford Center High School in 1937 and in her early years was a nanny for her relatives. She was a faithful member and a Sunday school teacher for many years at St. John United Church of Christ in Vera Cruz. She retired from the First Bank of Berne with over 40 years of service. She and Karen Adams established the Heritage Room at the Berne Public Library. She also enjoyed supporting Friends of the Limberlost near Geneva. She enjoyed traveling, reading, genealogy, landscaping, and following IU basketball.

She is survived by her nephew, Matthew Lynch of Wichita, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Loren and sister-in-law Dorothy (Stalter) Gottschalk, and niece, Bonnie Lynch.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Wednesday, January 4 at Cross Community Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Chris Kruchkow. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.

Memorials may be made to Friends of the Limberlost.
