Ruth M. Liechty
Ruth Mary Liechty, 84, of rural Berne passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur. She was born on November 14, 1933 in Adams County to Robert and Marcella (Moser) Lehman. She was married on October 8, 1955 to Byron W. Liechty.
She was a faithful member of the First Mennonite Church in Berne, where she taught Sunday school. She was a former employee of the Berne Witness and also helped her husband on the farm. She enjoyed organizing family picture albums, gardening, reading, and volunteering at Swiss Village.
She is survived by her husband; daughter, Becky (Brock) Zehr of Fort Wayne; three sons, Tom Liechty of Decatur; and Rick (June) Liechty; and Jeff (Cheryl) Liechty, both of Berne; three sisters, Barbara Yoder; Marjorie (Clyde) Wulliman; and Louise (Charles) Lehman, all of Berne; three brothers, Fred (Sonia) Lehman; and John Lehman, both of Berne; and Steve (Rhonda) Lehman of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, David and Robert Lehman; and grandson, Nicholas Liechty.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 29 at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, December 30 at the First Mennonite Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Jerry A. Flueckiger. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
Memorials may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee Meat Canner.
