Samuel L. Hirschy

Samuel L. Hirschy, 22, of Decatur passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2016 as the result of a moped/semi accident at the intersection of Salem Rd and Hwy 33. Witnesses believe Sam’s view was obstructed by the sunlight after had made a complete stop. He was born on November 12, 1993 to Ronald G. and Sandy K. (Baker) Hirschy.

He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. He was an avid Cubs fan and loved the outdoors.

He is survived by his parents of Decatur; companion, Angelica Rose Grogg and their son, Oliver, both of Berne; grandparents, Phil and Sally Erxleben of Decatur; brother, Scott “Bummer” (Gina) Hirschy of Angola; two sisters, Mandy Albertson; and Abby (Scott) McLaughlin, both of Decatur; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Jodi Kay; and grandparents, Bill and Millie Baker; and Glen and Jean Hirschy.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 7 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:15 p.m. The family is requesting that you please dress casual and wear Cubs or any sporting attire.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 8 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior in the St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Father Bob J. Lengerich will be the celebrant.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
