Terry L. Winteregg

Terry Lee Winteregg, 66, of Warsaw, beloved husband and father, passed away at 11:40 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Mason’s Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw. He was born on May 1, 1950 in Decatur to Doyle and Phyllis (Hoffman) Winteregg of Berne. He was married on August 5, 1972 in Berne to Kathy Habegger. Soon after, they moved to Warsaw.

He obtained an B.S. from Ball State in 1972 and an M.S. from IPFW in 1975. He began his teaching career in the fall of 1972 with Warsaw Community Schools, where he taught for 39 years. He taught fifth grade at both Atwood and Eisenhower Elementary Schools. During his years at Atwood, he coached boys and girls sports. At 6’5”, he was known as a gentle giant who influenced his students through his patience, kindness, and wonderful sense of humor. Teaching was a love for him that never ended, even with retirement. He attended WCC Church for the past 17 years.

He participated in several sports throughout his life. He was an avid runner, biker, and golfer. Over the years, he participated in marathons, mini-marathons, mini-triathlons, 5Ks, and a number of bike tours.

Above all else, his true loves in life were his quiet faith in God, his relationship with his wife and daughter, and time spent with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Darcy (Andy) Gilbert of Lafayette, Colorado; brother, Randy (Diane) Winteregg of Berne; four brothers and sisters-in-law; Randy (Rosie) Habegger of Granite Schoals, Texas; John (Sharie) Habegger of Arvada, Colorado; Neale Habegger of Syracuse; and Dean Habegger and Elizabeth Morris of Libertyville, Illinois; 17 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Linda Rasawehr of Woodburn.

There will be a celebration of his life in April. Details and location to be announced at a later date.
