Thomas A. Baker

Thomas A. Baker, 69, of Decatur passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at his residence. He was born on December 30, 1947 to Arthur A. and Agnes E. (Street) Baker. He was married on August 23, 1969 to Amanda S. Welker.

He was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He worked as a self-employed painting contractor. Above all, he loved his wife, kids, grandkids, parents, brothers and his sister. He cherished the time spent with his hunting buddies and the memories made on Dragon Lake. He truly loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, beagles, rabbits, I.U., the Cubs, and the beagle clubs.

He is survived by his wife of Decatur; son, Tommy Baker of Decatur; daughter, Tonya (Mike) Hamilton of Decatur; three brothers, Don (Karen) Baker; Pat (Kathy) Baker; and John (Christie) Baker, all of Decatur; six grandchildren, Deondra (Zach) Birch; Samantha (Jimmy) Shaffer; William and Maxwell Hamilton; and Ashley and Jared Baker; and three great-grandchildren, Draven Birch; and Xander and Beckam Shaffer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Debra A. (Baker) Carpenter on December 6, 2014.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur. A 1:00 p.m. funeral liturgy will be held on Wednesday, November 29 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with visitation from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in the St. Mary's Parish Hall. Officiating will be Father Bob J. Lengerich. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
