Virgil L. Gerber
Virgil Leon Gerber, 85, of Sudlersville, Maryland passed away on Monday, May 22, 2017 at the UMSMC in Chestertown, Maryland. He was born on March 5, 1932 in Monroe to Aaron and Ida (Roth) Gerber.
He attended Adams Central High School, graduating in the class of 1950. In 1952, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in England and was honorably discharged in 1954. Upon returning home to Indiana, he enrolled at Tri-State University, earning his degree in Engineering in 1958.
He began working at an independent power company as an engineer in Ohio. He moved to Odenton, Maryland in 1963 and began working for Westinghouse, where he worked as an engineer for 29 years until retiring in 1992. After retiring, he moved to Sudlersville, Maryland.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge of Chestertown and the American Legion in Centreville, Maryland. He enjoyed farming his property, fishing, and boating.
He is survived by two daughters, Pamela Grove; and Rhonda Schneider; son, Michael Gerber; two step-children, Steven Hockman; and Teana Fairbank; seven grandchildren, Michele Grove; Justin Grove; Whitney Schneider; Lindsey Connors; Adam Doran; Sylvia Hough; and Kaitlyn Fairbank; and three great-grandchildren, Isaiah Brewer; Blake Carr; and Colton Connors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Harold, Ralph and Lyle Gerber.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 25 at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Centreville, Maryland. Military honors will take place at 6:30 p.m. Private burial will be held at Church Hill Cemetery at a later date.
